The Project

My research topic is the use of mathematics in art. Indeed, I attended a university conference on the beauty of mathematics that I particularly enjoyed, the subject seeming both intriguing and captivating. I have always been very passionate about mathematics, which is one of my favorite subjects. When I started my research project, I immediately wanted one of the main subjects to be mathematics.

In addition, the "math-art" hybrid couple always seemed to me to be fabulously lively. These are actually two topics that few people think of putting together. Art is often seen as something "beautiful", from an exclusively aesthetic angle. We forget too often its regular and codified dimension. It is indeed a subject that is very close to mathematics, a discipline meant to demonstrate a fact meaningfully and logically. Similarly, mathematics can also be seen as beautiful. As a result, these elements pushed me to do more research linking these two subjects, which led to my research subject.

I worked with Stanford professor and artist John Edmark to gain insight on the subject. I wrote a thirty pages dissertation presenting my research and its outcome. Moreover, I built a 3D printed sculpture using the SketchUp software: Statera , the balance. This research project was ultimately presented to a jury of teachers.
